Though Season 2 started with Charlie and Alex returning home from a romantic (non-honeymoon) trip to Costa Rica, things weren’t all sunshine and beaches.
Even out of his coma, Charlie realized he still saw ghosts, which could be helpful in the O.R., but not so helpful in his relationship with Alex.
Joel met Sonja, the lovely red-headed social worker he dates for much of the season. Sadly Shahir and Victor weren’t together any longer, but Zach and Melanda became an item, and Maggie and Gavin were together…and got pregnant.
Not everything was lovey dovey, though. Joel and Sonja broke up (because of how Joel looks at Alex – a taste of things to come?!) and Charlie couldn’t handle being able to talk to ghosts and he started to lose it, jumping on a trampoline and bailing on meeting Alex and her brother Luke.
Things got even more emotionally devastating when Alex’s paramedic brother slipped and fell while trying to rescue a patient, and died. And if that wasn’t awful enough, Charlie revealed to Alex that he in fact can see Ghost-Luke and the pair broke up.
As Alex worked on moving forwards, things started picking up with Joel (uh oh!) and of course things came to a head between Joel and Charlie.
But that had nothing on the season finale. “Things ended in quite a bit of turmoil when Alex got herself stabbed,” explains actress Erica Durance. “All the doctors were fighting to save her and Charlie was devastated.
But things didn’t end there, Durance adds: “Then Alex is watching herself on the table.”
She stays pretty tight-lipped on what’s ahead for Season 3, but does say, “You will get to see a bit about Charlie and Alex’s relationship in that in-between world.”
So what will happen in Season 3? Will Alex spend the season in a coma like Charlie did in Season 1? Will Charlie be able to coach her through the liminal space of the spirit world?
Or will she wake up? And if she does wake up, will she remember her time in the spirit world, or better yet, will she be able to talk to spirits, too? Now THAT would be a dynamic duo in the OR!
