This year, the full official lineup of nominees was announced during an official press conference in Rome on July 24, 2014.
In August, watch for the 71st edition of the Venice Film Festival to officially get underway on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
The big buzz at this year's fest is the premiere of Alejandro Inarritu's "Birdman," with an all-star cast including Michael Keaton (in a major comeback role), Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts.
Other notable films in the 2014 lineup include Ramin Bahrani's recession drama "99 Homes" starring Andrew Garfield, and "Good Kill", which stars Ethan Hawke as a drone operator in Afghanistan. Already tipped for a nomination at the 2015 Oscars, Al Pacino plays an ex-con turned locksmith in David Gordon Green's "Manglehorn"

All about the Venice Film Festival
Now heading into its 7th decade, the Venice Film Festival has changed markedly over the recent past - growing from a strictly European lineup to featuring a varied and outstanding international venue.
This effectively makes the festival one of the earliest predictors of winners for other film top awards worldwide, including leading Hollywood contenders at the Oscars.
The principal awards in Venice are the Leone d'Oro (Golden Lion), which is awarded for best film, and the Coppa Volpi (Volpi Cup) for best actor and actress.
