The world we knew is gone. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months society has crumbled. In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally start living.
Based on a comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, this AMC project focuses on the world after a zombie apocalypse. The series follows a police officer, Rick Grimes, who wakes up from a coma to find the world ravaged with zombies.
Looking for his family, he and a group of survivors attempt to battle against the zombies in order to stay alive. The Walking Dead is an epic, edge-of-your-seat drama where personal struggles are magnified against a backdrop of moment-to-moment survival.
A survivalist story at its core, the series explores how the living are changed by the overwhelming realization that those who survive can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth. They themselves have become the walking dead.
As The Walking Dead reaches its sixth episode of Season 5, the mid-season finale is growing closer. Last week’s “Self Help” episode told the story of Abraham’s group finally learning the truth about Eugene. Needless to say, Abraham was not pleased.
Last week on Walking Dead Season 5, Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Tara (Alanna Masterson) headed to DC. Of course, they faced plenty of obstacles, including a bus crash and walker attacks.
But the most shocking revelation occurred when Eugene revealed he is not even a scientist. He lied about knowing a possible cure for the outbreak, realizing that if people thought he could stop the apocalypse, they would ensure his survival.
This Walking Dead betrayal particularly affected Abraham, as his belief that Eugene knew a possible cure had actually saved his life. Season 5 flashbacks revealed that Abraham’s family abandoned him out of fear during the apocalypse.
When Abraham found their dead bodies, he planned to kill himself, only to discover (and save) Eugene. The mission to DC gave Abraham renewed purpose, so he clearly won’t take the news of Eugene’s lie very well.
“In that moment when he [Eugene] basically says, ‘I’ve been lying,’ everything falls apart for Abraham,” Cudlitz said about his character’s current mindset on Walking Dead Season 5. “He is right back to where he was a year-and-a-half, two years ago, with losing his family. He is at his lowest point.
The reason for him living at all has been a complete and utter lie. Eugene talks about the people that died. Abraham can’t think about anything but the people that he’s killed doing this. It’s not just the people that died trying to do it, it’s how many people have I killed because they were potentially in the way of this mission as a soldier, who maybe didn’t deserve to die now?”
So what will happen in Episode 6 of Walking Dead Season 5? The synopsis for “Consumed” simply states that some survivors must rescue others in a “familiar location.” This episode will also focus on Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride), so hopefully we’ll find out how the latter ended up in the hospital at the end of “Slabtown.”
But Walking Dead Season 5 fans are worried about a possible shocking death in Episode 6. The sneak peek below shows Daryl carrying (and burning) a body, which led many to wonder if Beth would be the show’s next victim. But thankfully, “Consumed” spoilers indicate that the body in question belongs to a young walker.
