Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Finale, Episode 11 "The Akeda"

Episode Synopsis: Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Episode 11 “The Akeda” – Unforeseen sacrifices must be made and loyalties are put to the ultimate test in the fight against evil.

Show Summary: SLEEPY HOLLOW returns this fall with all-new edge-of-your-seat mysteries and adventures, as the series’ heroic duo of ICHABOD CRANE (Tom Mison) and ABBIE MILLS (Nicole Beharie) fends off the forces of evil to save not only their town, but the world.

Picking up immediately after the spellbinding events of the Season One finale, Ichabod finds himself buried alive in a coffin; Abbie is trapped in purgatory; Ichabod’s wife, KATRINA (Katia Winter), has been kidnapped by the Headless Horseman; Capt. FRANK IRVING (Orlando Jones) is behind bars for a murder he did not commit; and Abbie’s sister, JENNY (Lyndie Greenwood), is among the wreckage of a horrific car crash.

These events were due in large part to the shocking revelation that HENRY PARISH (John Noble), the trusted friend of Ichabod and Abbie, is actually Ichabod and Katrina’s son and the Second Horseman of the Apocalypse. Now, with Henry’s emergence as the Horseman of War, alongside the Headless Horseman, Sleepy Hollow has never been so close to destruction.

This season, fans will be introduced to a myriad of new faces in Sleepy Hollow, including SHERIFF LEENA REYES (guest star Sakina Jaffrey, “House of Cards”) and the enigmatic NICK HAWLEY (guest star Matt Barr, “Hatfields & McCoys”) who add new drama, excitement and intrigue to the ever-thickening story of the mystical town. Sheriff Reyes’ no-nonsense attitude threatens Ichabod and Abbie’s progress, while Hawley’s appearance in town adds romantic intrigue and a touch of scandal.

For their part, Ichabod and Abbie face a new slew of netherworld evils and must combat them, at times, using fire to fight fire. Plus, the realization that their No. 1 foe is actually Ichabod’s son places loyalties – and seemingly unbreakable friendships – to the ultimate test. As always, Ichabod continues to discover more about the modern world around him – from the joys of the modern-day banking system, to a new, perplexing exercise routine: yoga.

Tonight, we saw the end of the road for “Sleepy Hollow” season 2 … at least for the time being. The good news is that there is still more to come.

While Fox has not set an official return date in stone for Tom Mison and company just yet, our understanding is that the remaining episodes for the show are going to start airing in January. The way the schedule seems to be going here is that this show will likely come back, and then air all of the rest of its episodes throughout the months of January and February. Then, Fox will replace it with the third season of “The Following,” which will be paired up with “Gotham.” That seems to be the logical way to do things.

If there is something in particular we are hoping for from the second part of the season, it is a little less Crane family drama, and a little more of getting back to the first season of the show. We’re starting to feel as though Katrina really should have been left in the past; we like Katia WInter, but her story has made things all the more muddled in the present, and we liked the somewhat-simplified version of Ichabod and Abbie working together to take down the forces of evil.

Then again, sometimes this show gets a little too messy, since you have so many different people all involved in it; it feels at times like all of these ideas collided this season.
